Mission & Ministry
In Mission

“The Church exists by mission as fire exists by burning.
Without mission there is really no Church.”

~ Emil Brunner, Theologian

The United Church of Christ (UCC) supports mission efforts in over 70 countries throughout the world and throughout our nation. Our local Pennsylvania Southeast Conference (PSEC) of the UCC supports a wide variety of mission efforts locally within the southern corner of PA as well as nationally and internationally. St. Vincent is in regular support of those local, national, and international mission and ministry efforts, plus we work ecumenically (with other denominations) and directly with local agencies to support a wide variety of mission and ministry efforts.
Included in this web site are some of the missions and ministries in which St. Vincent is involved both locally and globally.

Ecumenical

St. Vincent is an ecumenical church, seeking to share positively in inter-denominational relationships.

Locally, St. Vincent is a part of the East Coventry Union of Churches (ECUC), participating in common mission, ministry, and worship opportunities with congregations of other denominations within our area.
The East Coventry Union of Churches includes:
     St. Vincent UCC; Phoenixville
     Bethel United Methodist; Spring City
     Brownback's UCC; Spring City
Parker Ford Baptist Church; Parker Ford
     Parker Ford Brethren Church; Pottstown

Our UCC PSE Conference fosters interfaith relationships within this corner of Pennsylvania, as well as partner churches in Germany and Cuba.

We support our ecumenical partnerships locally, nationally, and globally, including our Global Ministry partnership with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) working in over 70 countries; our partnership with 35 different denominations in Church World Service (CWS) providing national and international aid; the Formula of Agreement (FOA) among the UCC, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church (USA), and the Reformed Church in America; and other ecumencial partnerships.

The UCC was founded as a coming together of various Christian denominations believing in Jesus' prayer "That they may all be one", believing that we can do more working together than we can competing over which one denomination is better.  We are all better, when we are working together as one.

Ministries

 Prayer Shawl Ministry
Thursdays from 6:30-7:30pm - Resuming in the spring of 2010
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is taking a break this winter, but is scheduled to resume meeting sometime in the sping of 2010.  This is an opportunity for prayer, fellowship, and knitting/crocheting.  The shawls are blessed during a worship service and then given to others to share the warmth of God’s love.  For more information, please contact Fay B. through the church office: 610-933-4243.
You do not need to be a member to join the Prayer Shawl Ministry - visitors are welcome.
You can view photos, by clicking on this 2009 Prayer Shawl Dedication link.

If you do not have the gifts of knitting or crocheting, but would still like to help support this ministry, you can help provide knitting supplies by making a tax-deductible donation payable to “St. Vincent UCC” marked “Prayer Shawl.”
