Faith Formation
Discipleship

Students of the Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ

As baptized Christians, we are disciples of Jesus Christ, we are students of His life and teachings.  We believe Jesus to be "the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6).  We seek to grow in our understanding of Jesus' way and endeavor to share his truth through both our words and actions.

Faith Formation is more than just learning about scripture.  Faith Formation is about growing in our faith, deepening our relationship with God, and strengthening our discipleship in Jesus Christ.

Not everyone learns in the same way, and our learning preferences change over time.  We offer Faith Formation opportunities for a variety of age groups in a variety of ways.

"Why We Have Different Bible Translations"
          (September 13 - September 27)

Have you ever wondered....
What is the difference between the King James Version, NRSV, Good News, NIV, and others?
Why do we and most UCC churches use the NRSV?
Why do some Bibles include Psalm 151 and others do not?
Our pew Bible doesn’t include Psalm 151 why is that?
Why does our pew and pulpit Bible skip in the 37th verse in the 8th chapter of Acts
(in those Bibles it goes verses 35, 36, 38)?
Why do some Bibles have more books than others?
For instance why do some have the book of Baruch and others do not?
How can I choose a good Bible to study?
Why do some Bibles put the books of the Bible in reverse order?
We’ll explore these questions and more

FAQS
Q:  What if I can't come six weeks in a row?
A:  That is ok, come those days you can.

Q:  Do I need to sign up in advance?
A:  Signing up in advance enables us to order sufficient copies of the books ahead of time.  Even if you don't sign up in advance, you are welcome to come.

Q:  How easy/difficult is the study book?
A:  One of the reasons for choosing this resource is that the book is very user friendly.  It is easy to read, important things are in bold, there are cliff notes already in the margin to make it easy to skim, and the end of the chapter discussion questions are very timely and helpful.

Q:  How up to date is this resource?
A:  It was published last year.

Q:  What does the resource discuss?
A:  We will be covering a number of topics, including: deepening our spirituality, understanding the decline of mainline Protestant churches like ours in the past few decades, learning how we can begin to reverse that trend at St. Vincent and in our local community, learning that there are many options beyond door-to-door evangelism for churches to share their good news, learning what scripture and Christianity teach about leading others to know the blessings of having a living relationship with a loving God, and laying down a church-wide spiritual, theological, and practical foundation for the future programming and initiatives for St. Vincent.  We will be doing all this and more in a mere six weeks.

Q:  Do you have to be a member to participate?
A:  No.  Visitors, members, and friends are all very welcome.  There is no charge for members or non-members.

Q:  What if I have more questions?
A:  We have 3 teams with three team leaders with for the various phases of this program.  Contact the church office and we can direct you to the right person  610-933-4243  610-933-4243 or StVincentUCC@gmail.com.
